Welcome to the Department

Do you look at the world and wonder what we are doing and where we are going? How can thousands die each day because of poverty, or diseases that we know can be prevented? Why do people become terrorists, killing themselves and others? What can be done about climate change?  And most of all, what do the politicians think they are doing?

Do you have ideas about how the world should be run? What values should shape global politics? Should the future be defined by religion, by capitalism, by socialism? Are human rights effective bulwarks against tyranny and oppression? Do rights really matter? Are people truly equal? Must government impose equality? What does it mean to be free?

Do you want to know about the institutions that govern and shape the world? Is the United Nations up to the job? How important is America or China to your future? How can we achieve cooperation, efficiency, and succcess at the local or the global level?

Do you want to learn about Power in a global society. Who has it? How did they get it? What will they do with it? Should we stop them or should we join them? Is power even something to be possessed? How does it operate in the world through institutions, through laws, through customs?

These are the questions of Politics and International Relations. And if they interest you then you interest us.

Ask questions. Demand answers.

Study Politics and International Relations.
