Career Biography
John is a Pro-Vice chancellor of the University.

Research
John is a renowned expert in the field of international politics focusing on issues of strategy and arms control.

Among his many publications are:
Anglo-American Defence Relations 1939-1980 (1981; 2nd edn. 1984),
Ambiguity and Deterrence: British Nuclear Strategy 1945-1963 (1995)
The Globalisation of World Politics: An Introduction to International Relations (1997; 2nd. ed. 2001)
The Globalization of World Politics: An Introduction to International Relations (3rd.ed.2004) - this is the best selling textbook on International Relations in the World.
Alternative Nuclear Futures: The Role of Nuclear Weapons in the Post Cold-War Era (2000)
Anglo-American Relations Since 1939: The Enduring Alliance (1997)
He is currently working on difficult yet crucial issue of how to control nuclear weapons in the post-Cold War era.
