Research Rob has long specialised in studies of Communism, democratisation and macro-political change in Europe (especially the eastern half of Europe) and in several other regions of the world. More recently he has been working on postcolonialism, Orientalism, Eurocentrism, xenophobia, genocide and migration.

He is currently writing books entitled Oriental Europe (with Catherine Lee) and Genocidal Europe, and (with Ian Jeffries) East Central Europe After Communism.
Teaching Rob’s main teaching is on global politics, postcolonialism, Orientalism, Eurocentrism, identity politics, migration, genocide, democracy, rights and European politics (East and West). He coordinates the Masters programme in Global Politics and Intercultural Studies and he is coordinating the launch of a BA degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics in 2008.
