Research

Alan is an international relations, strategic/security studies specialist with particular interest in Southeast Asia. His publications include The Security Dilemma and the End of the Cold War (1997), The Security Dilemmas of Southeast Asia (2000) and Security Issues in Southeast Asia (2003). He has received funding awards from the British Academy and is currently conducting research on securitization and desecuritization.

Teaching

Alan convenes the Level 1 module War and Peace in the Nuclear Age and the Level 2 module International Security.
