Career Biography Columba has spent four years as a graduate student in International Politics at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. During this time he also acted as a visiting scholar at the University of Southern California, and he previously studied politics and international relations at the University of Limerick (Ireland), and the University of Copenhagen (Denmark).
Research Columba's research interests are in the fields of international security, critical approaches to strategic and security studies, and American defence and security policy with specific focus on ballistic missile defence and nuclear security. He is currently completing a research project investigating arguments for ballistic missile defences in the United States, with reference to the understandings of technological development on which these arguments are based, and has recently published in the Cambridge Review of International Affairs.
Teaching Columba teaches the Level 2 module on American Defence Policy. He is also part of the teaching team for the Level 1 Modules Understanding Global Politics and War and Peace, and the Level 2 Modules Anarchy and Order and International Security. In addition he contributes to the Approaches to IR, Rethinking Global Politics and War in Space on the MA programme.
